I want to know how to send & receive IDoc to non-SAP system without SAP PI. I want to check if my understanding is correct.
Sending IDoc
We need to use EDI to send IDoc from SAP to non-SAP system. There are 2 ways to send IDoc to third party non-SAP system, which are via RFC or files. If we choose files, then we need to specify the location of where the files will be generated and then the third party system should consume the files there. If we choose RFC then we need to setup a TCP/IP connection in SM58 to the third party system then the third party system needs to register itself to the SAP gateway.
- Can we specify different file name if we generate more than one IDoc at a time?
Receiving IDoc
There are also 2 ways for receiving IDoc, which are by RFC or files. For files, we can configure the location of the files and the third party needs to generate the IDoc files in the location specified. For RFC, the third party system needs to call IDOC_INBOUND_ASYNCHRONOUS passing the IDoc data.
- Can we manage the archiving of the files once we processed them?
Which one is preferred? RFC or File?
Why is ALE not possible for this scenario? Is there any technical limitation to ALE?
